European Media Art Platform (EMAP) Residencies

With support from the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, the European Media Art Platform invites artists, artist duos, collectives, and other artistic collaborations working in  digital art, media art, robotic art and bio art for a two months production residency at one of our member organisations. An unique element of the EMAP residency programme is its emphasis on collaboration. Applicants are expected either to propose a collaborative project in their application or apply as a duo or collective.

European artists and collectives can apply with a project proposal for a  two months residency in 2026. Applicants are required to collaborate with a partner of their choice or with a collaborator local to the host institution:

Artists apply to the consortium as a whole and indicate their preferred locations in order of priority.

The residency includes:
- an invitation to the kick-off conference in Braga, Portugal 8.-9. May 2026
- a g€4,000 grant for the applying artist(s) including subsistence costs
- a  €2,000 grant for collaborating artist(s) or €6,000 for an artist duo / group
- a project budget of a minimum of €4,000
- accommodation provided by the host organization
- travel expenses covered up to €1,000
- free access to he host institution's technical facilities and/or media labs.
 

It further comprises a professional presentation, opportunities to participate in exhibition tours at EMAP members’ festivals and exhibitions, as well as potential exhibition opportunities with EMAP partner institutions.

Applications must be submitted online and should  include a CV, (audio)-visual documentation of previous works, and a preliminary plan and presentation of the proposed project to be developed within the EMAP Residencies programme. Collaborating artists do not need to be confirmed at the time of submission.

Applicants must be EU residents or taxpayers in an EU member country or residents/taxpayers of one of these eligible non EU-countries.

Undergraduate and Master students are not eligible but PhD candidates may apply. Emerging artists of any age and academic background are encouraged to apply.
