About gnration
gnration is one of Portugal’s leading institutions working at the intersection of contemporary music, art and technology. Located in Braga, a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, gnration regularly programmes exhibitions, concerts/performances, artistic residencies and education activities. For over a decade, gnration has commissioned new audiovisual works from a diverse array of contemporary artists, including Phill Niblock, Mark Fell, AGF, Florian Hecker, Jana Winderen, Jonathan Uliel Saldanha and Jim O’Rourke.
Facilities and Partners
Formerly a military police headquarters, gnration’s building was rehabilitated into a cultural centre in 2013 and awarded the national prize for urban rehabilitation. Its facilities include a blackbox stage for performances, two galleries for exhibitions, one artist-in-residency suite and several rooms for working in an artist-in-residency format.
A vital part of gnration’s mission is also establishing and working with a wide range of partners. These include institutions such as the University of Minho, the INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Institute, the School of Arts of the Catholic University, ESMAD, as well as several local artists and collectives.
